My Final Game Idea
I finally decided on making a platformer game during semester 2. This would be easier to code for me, as there are lots of resources out there. I could also try my hand at creating 2D pixel art, something I've never done before.
Starting Point
Inspiration
I wanted to shift the focus from Prince Charming to the princess. I wanted to focus on her quest, her aspirations and motivations.
I wanted to create a heroine that is both delicate and strong. She is not the typical princess, she's in tune with nature, is resilient, is not afraid of the harsh winter conditions.
Art style
I wanted to do pixel art, and it was my first try at it. I was struck by the idea that I could use embroidery patterns for the desig of the game world, as they are easy to translate to pixel art and would be an interesting take on the game.
I was struggling to create pixel art characters, so I used a template.
This is the result
I added the black sheep as a sidekick. It simbolizes the heroine's individualistic nature and it shows she's going against the norms. Her companion also has magical abilities and interesting mechanics.

Sound Design
As my game is highly inspired by the pastoral theme, I looked for a traditional flute song that is also dinamic and updated for modern audiences. This is my pick:
